TECA, Zimbabwe’s leading liberal economic think-tank convened a successful Zimbabwe Economic Competitiveness Conference on November 12th.
The key issue of focus was how to make Zimbabwe prosper into an upper-middle-income society. The government of Zimbabwe was represented by the Director in the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Mrs Netai Magade. We are happy that there is an emerging policy convergence on the need to: a) open up the Zimbabwean economy and easing the cost of doing business to woo local and international investments; b) reduce taxation, and with it, government expenditure; c) a stern adherence to the rule of law especially on public finance management, d) insurance of a sound local currency whose forex rate is determined by the market, and e) facilitate innovation and technology to broaden the economic base.
