The Zimbabwe Taxpayers’ Platform (ZITAP) on Thursday, 15 May 2025 hosted a successful strategic planning meeting with different stakeholders making vital contributions to shaping the platform’s future.

ZITAP officials, including the Chairperson, Mr. Itai Zimunya, Director, Mr. Vivid Gwede, and Board Member, Mr. Nyasha Musikambesa, led the session highlighting the vision behind the formation of the platform.

The officials highlighted the status of ZITAP as a project of the Eastern Caucus now at the stage of developing into a separate thinktank, including its successful engagement with partners such as the Atlas Network.

The meeting attended by representatives of resident associations, informal traders, economists, and researchers sought to explore the organisation’s strategic response to taxation issues to ensure accountability and economic freedom in the country.

The meeting highlighted that taxation issues constituted a vital plank of Zimbabwe’s economic development trajectory.

Participants said the platform needed to provide information vital in bridging the accountability gap, including through social media.

The planning meeting highlighted key issues affecting Zimbabwean taxpayers, including high tax burdens, mis-prioritisation of public expenditure, and poor service delivery.

The meeting highlighted the importance of tracking the public finance management processes following the constitutional framework, participating in fiscal policymaking, building on the various social movements to connect to key constituencies, and adopting a network approach to tax justice in the country.

The meeting underscored the importance of ZITAP anchoring on people-centric programming.
